A sombre mood has enveloped the family of former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga following the passing of his 50-year-old son, Athman Mutunga.

Athman died on Saturday, October 12, at Coptic Hospital after undergoing four surgeries in the past two months. The family has not disclosed the specific illness that led to his death.

In the wake of this tragedy, many Kenyans, including members of the Judiciary, have expressed their condolences to the family.

Martha Koome consoles ex-CJ Willy Mutunga's family

Chief Justice Martha Koome extended heartfelt sympathies, describing the loss as heartbreaking.

?On behalf of the Judiciary family and my own, I offer our deepest condolences to Emeritus Chief Justice (Rtd) Dr. Willy Mutunga and his family on the heartbreaking loss of his beloved son, Athman Mutunga,? she stated.

The president of the Supreme Court affirmed her support, emphasising that the Judiciary will stand by the Mutunga family during this challenging time. Koome wished them strength amid the profound loss of their loved one.

?While words may never fully ease the pain of the death of a loved one, we hope that the family finds comfort in the cherished memories shared with Athman. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mutunga family, and we pray that Athman's soul rests in eternal peace," she added.
