Nakuru Family Seeks Justice after Police Allegedly Kills Kin During Night Raid: "Walimpiga Risasi"

Matthew Letyo from Kuresoi South Constituency was allegedly killed by four police officers who stormed his house on October 8

His wife Cynthia Chepkemoi claimed that two of the officers searched their house after the murder and stole their KSh 12,000 and a torch

Kuresoi Police Commander Jeremiah Leariwala said detectives visited the scene and an investigation has been launched

Cynthia Chepkemoi recounted that on October 8 at 9pm, police officers raided their home, arrested her husband Matthew Letyo, and subsequently killed him, dragging his body to the gate.

The four officers arrived on a boda boda, according to a report by NTV Kenya.

"They kicked the door, and when my husband woke up to open it, he met the four of them. He tried to escape, but the officers jumped on him, handcuffed him, and shot him in the stomach," she recounted.

Chepkemoi alleged that after two officers dragged her husband's body to the gate, the other two searched the house and took KSh 12,000 and a torch.

Why did police allegedly kill Matthew Letyo?

Letyo's mother, Paulina, devastated by the loss, questioned the reason behind her son's brutal murder.

"My child had no offence. I heard somebody sued my son after his cow broke and grazed in his land. Is it fair to kill someone because of grass that belongs to God? Why? What law is that?" she posed.

However, the cause of his alleged shooting was not mentioned by the implicated officers.

The residents are demanding justice after their kin, described as a man with a good reputation, was killed after being arrested and handcuffed.

Jeremiah Leariwala, the Kuresoi Police Commander, stated that detectives had visited the area, recorded witness statements and that the matter is under investigation.
