Orlando Pride's unbeaten run ends with 2-0 defeat against Portland Thorns

The NWSL delivered a shocking result this weekend, as Orlando Pride lost 2-0 to Portland Thorns.

The general consensus had been that the Pride were unbeatable after they continued to dominate at the top of the league table, lifting the NWSL Shield and looking to further command the upcoming playoffs.

Goals from Morgan Weaver and Christine Sinclair helped the underdogs prevail, but the Pride remain comfortably at the top of the table.

The Portland side continues to fight for a place in the playoffs, and the three points picked up in this round will spur on the confidence of the Thorns.

This match was a special one for Canadian legend Sinclair. Retiring at the end of the season, having already stepped down from international duty, the star's 55th minute contribution marked her 80th career goal, an impressive milestone reached as her final year as a footballer draws to a close.

Seb Hines is confident Orlando Pride will bounce back

This slight knock to the ego of Seb Hines at the home of the Thorns is not as surprising as one might initially think.

The Pride has actually only won one game at Providence Park, and that was back in 2018.

Next up for Orlando Pride is NJ/NY Gotham FC, whilst the Portland Thorns will hope to edge out Racing Louisville and hold on to their spot in the top eight.

There are now only two rounds left of the NWSL season, and Portland Thorns aren't going down without a fight. Meanwhile, the Pride might have lost a fixture, but their drive to win is ever-present. "We don't want to feel like that," Hines told the media after the loss.
