76ers president calls Philadelphia's offseason 'very risky' in candid admission

Risky is the word an important figure within the Philadelphia 76ers' organization used to describe their offseason.

Sixers team president Daryl Morey went all in this summer by signing star Paul George to a maximum contract while bringing in a haul of new faces. Even Morey admits his bold strategy is likely not the recommended one, describing it as "very risky."

"It's probably not recommended," 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey told ESPN with a laugh while speaking on the team's high-wire act this summer. "But it was definitely the best plan -- even though it was a very, very risky plan."

Morey's right. Sometimes the best blueprint is also the most risky. If Philadelphia hopes to win a championship with Joel Embiid at the helm, high-risk acquisitions were viewed as necessary. Perhaps none more so than George, who the team president shared will likely never appear in back-to-back games along with Joel Embiid to preserve their health.

"We're going to be smart about it," Morey said. "Part of being smart about it is having both Paul and Joel probably not play many back to backs, if any."

Embiid echoed the idea that there is just one goal in mind: winning a ring.

"I've accomplished everything [individually]," Embiid told ESPN. "But there's one thing missing, which is to win a championship."

The MVP, All-Star, and two-time scoring champion is competing for this title with arguably the best surrounding cast of his career.
