How much does Victor Wembanyama weigh? Fact-checking photo of Spurs rising star's muscle gain

After taking the basketball world by storm as a rookie, Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama is expected to make a massive leap during his sophomore season. Ahead of his second year, he is already making an impression with his physical progress.

When San Antonio released its training camp roster, fans could not help but notice that Wembanyama was listed as weighing 25 pounds heavier than he did last season. For a player of Wembanyama's frame, such an increase could have a major impact on his output.

Adding to the lore of Wembanyama's physical evolution is a photo circulating on social media. The side-by-side split frame shows him as a 19-year-old rookie and his alleged state as a 20-year-old, a marked difference.

Is the photo real? Here is more on Wembanyama's weight for the upcoming season and whether or not his gains are real.

How much does Victor Wembanyama weigh?

Wembanyama weighs 235 pounds, per the Spurs training camp roster. Last season, he was listed as 210 pounds.

The 25-pound increase in weight is more than believable considering Wembanyama's age, his frame and, presumably, the weightlifting program he's been on since joining the NBA.

With that in mind, it's worth taking a closer look at just how much Wembanyama has grown.

Fact-checking photo of Victor Wembanyama's muscle gain

A split photo featuring two pictures of Wembanyama at the free throw line has circulated on social media.

While impressive, the photo of Wembanyama on the right appears to be doctored and exaggerates his muscle gain.

A similar side-by-side photo of Wembanyama at the free throw line illustrates the actual difference. The photo on the left is from Wembanyama's rookie season while the photo on the right is from the 2024 preseason.

The angles are not completely similar but the photos do illustrate more definition in Wembanyama's arms and throughout his upper body. The differences above are enough to indicate growth of over 20 pounds.

Spurs fans are hoping that Wembanyama's physical growth will allow him to make the anticipated leap in Year 2. He's well on his way.
