Cowboys predicted to lose 'overlooked' free-agent defensive star to Jaguars

How much of the band will stay together for the Dallas Cowboys?

At 3-3, the Cowboys have not had the season they were hoping for to this point. That has prompted questions about head coach Mike McCarthy's job security, as well as whether or not it was wise to give quarterback Dak Prescott a record-breaking contract extension.

As Prescott becomes a larger part of the Cowboys' payroll, it will become necessary to let go of some of the veteran players elsewhere on the roster. That could include one defensive stalwart who Dallas likely would be sat to see walk away.

Standout defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa could be on the move this winter. Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department predicted on Monday that Odighizuwa would sign with the Jaguars as a free agent.

"The Jaguars started a youth movement on the interior of the defensive line by drafting Maason Smith and Jordan Jefferson. Roy Robertson-Harris is due to be a free agent and DaVon Hamilton hasn't played all that well. They should be looking to add more new blood to the position group this offseason," the authors said.

"Osa Odighizuwa will be an overlooked free agent. He doesn't have gaudy sack stats, but he's a decent penetrating 3-technique who has been able to carve out a significant role in the Cowboys defense."

Odighizuwa, 26, has been an excellent role player on the Dallas defense the last few years. He posted a total of 48 points saved on defense from 2022-2023, per Sports Info Solutions, and he has a career-high 12.6% pass rush pressure percentage in 2024.

A needy team like Jacksonville could poach Odighizuwa from the Cowboys simply because of their willingness to offer him the most money. That could be a key loss for a Dallas team that may be experiencing lots of turnover this coming spring.
