Ruth Chepng?etich: New World Record Holder Addresses Doping Talks After Chicago Win

Ruth Chepng'etich shattered the women's marathon world record with a blistering run in Chicago on October 13

Chepng'etich's run was so good that it has reawakened naysayers who continue to doubt Kenyan athletes' performances

The new world record holder responded to the question as the country continues to grapple with rampant doping issues

No sooner had she crossed the finishing line than the talk started - no way she could have achieved that under natural circumstances.

It will take a while before Ruth Chepng'etich's heroics in the streets of Chicago on October 13 dawns on everyone.

No woman had ever run a sub-2:10 marathon before the gallant run by the 30-year-old on her third attempt in Chicago. She has now won the race three times, but the 2024 one will always have a special edge to it?she is the world record holder.

Doping in Kenya

Unfortunately for Chepng'etich, almost every win by a Kenyan nowadays is met with scrutiny and doubt. Kenya remains a Category A country, with more attention given to its athletes as far as doping is concerned.

Numerous narratives were peddled online about how Chepng'etich ran the incredible race to shave off at least two minutes from the previous world record and improve her personal best by more than five minutes.

The 2019 World Champion was confronted with the question during her post-race presser, but she didn't seem interested in entertaining such thoughts.

"I don?t have any idea. You know people must talk, but?people must talk, so I don?t know."

World Athletics recognised her win in Chicago as a world record pending the usual ratification procedures.

How much Chepng'etich got for breaking the world record

TUKO.co.ke had earlier reported the millions Chepng'etich pocketed after smashing the world record.

The Kenyan star became the first athlete to dip under 2:10, running an incredible 2:09:57 to set the fastest time in history.

Chicago is one of the World Marathon majors with a lucrative prize kitty always on offer to the participants.
