2 Mombasa-Bound Travellers Robbed KSh 409k by Gang That Offered Them Lift
The duo was tricked into a personal vehicle after their would-be tormentors found them in Mlolongo waiting for a Mombasa-bound bus from Nairobi
They boarded the vehicle, which at first seemed to leave for Mombasa before the occupants turned against the victims

Police are pursuing a trio of suspects accused of robbing two travellers heading to Mombasa from Nairobi.

The duo was waiting for a coast-bound bus in the Mlolongo area when a personal vehicle showed up and offered them a lift.
They obliged and boarded the vehicle, whose occupants would later turn out to be robbers.
"After boarding, the vehicle occupants turned to be robbers, who, on reaching the Simba Cement area of Athiriver, brandished daggers and held them hostage. The victims were blindfolded and restrained using ropes before they were frisked for valuables," a statement from the DCI read.
According to the police, one of the victims, a male from Kiambu town, was robbed of KSh 340,000.
This was after the robbers accessed his bank accounts using the M-banking apps and another KSh 20,000 from his M-pesa wallet.
He was also robbed of his Samsung Galaxy phone and power bank, all valued at SKh 75,000.s
On the other hand, a female victim who resides in Mombasa was robbed of KSh 49,000 from her M-Pesa wallet.
They were driven to Limuru, where they dumped unhurt with their tormentors speeding off with their loot.
Officers from Ngarariga Police Station rescued them before referring their matter to the Athi River Police Station, whose officers are now undertaking investigations.
The DCI called on the public to be wary of criminals taking advantage of the travel crisis during this festivity season.
"We call upon members of the public to be security cautious and to report any suspicious persons or activities around their neighbourhoods so that we can all enjoy the true meaning of a happy festivity," DCI said.
