Why is Kimani Ichung'wah planning to 'cleanse' parliament?
The outspoken legislator was speaking during a church service on Sunday, December 22.
He expressed dismay over the behavior exhibited by the Kenyan youth during the protests.
"Some of the words our children were using against our leaders and against their own country are things none of us ever imagined," said Ichung'wah.
The lawmaker blamed both parents and the church for failing to instill moral values in children, a failure he says was evident during the Gen Z protests in June 2024.
He added that he would consult the leadership of the House on plans to initiate a "cleansing" of Parliament, which was stormed by Gen Z protesters on June 25.
"I am going to speak with Speaker Wetang?ula so that we organize for the cleansing of Parliament buildings," he announced.
Ichung'wah did not spare church leaders, accusing some of abandoning their spiritual roles for political engagements.
"The challenge we have is that even our church leaders have abandoned the work they should be doing of guiding the nation in a godly manner and became politicians. They became politicians and spoke politics rather than providing spiritual guidance," he stated.
The lawmaker lauded President William Ruto for including fresh faces in his administration, a move he believes will foster national unity.
"We thank and congratulate the President for continuing to broaden the broad-based government so that we may unite all the people of our country," said Ichung'wah.
President Ruto calls for parental responsibility
Ichung'wah's remarks come a day after the president urged parents to take greater responsibility for their children's moral upbringing.
Speaking during a wedding ceremony in Mombasa, the president also said the church has a vital role in guiding the youth.
