Why Mithika Linturi is unhappy with Ruto
On Saturday, December 21, Linturi claimed the Ameru community had been sidelined from crucial national political decisions despite overwhelming support for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance in the 2022 General Election.
Linturi lamented that Ruto's government had constantly disrespected the Ameru community and failed to recognise their contributions to his election victory.
"It is necessary for the respect of the people of Meru to return; we are tired of being disregarded. We are tired of being looked at with eyes as if we are people of no significance... our 800,000 votes must count! We accepted and believed; now there is a lot of contempt," Linturi said.
Will Meru support Ruto in 2027?
The former Meru senator threatened to lead the community in dumping Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to Linturi, the president thinks having secured the support of ODM leader Raila Odinga is enough to win the next election.
"We will come to you, we will tell you, the dignity of Meru must be restored. We shall work day and night to restore the glory of Meru and even if they disdain us, they think there is nowhere we can go... because Kitendawili has taken, Uhuru is now the one you are with," he added.
The former Agriculture CS Linturi said the community has learnt from its past mistakes and will ensure that its support is more strategically directed in the future to secure its rightful place in national leadership.
"Going forward, we have learnt from our past mistakes, and that's why we have studied so we will not repeat them. But I want it to be known that in these days, even a mother and her dignity, at least she is given respect because even the wealth you sought, you sought it together with her, and you also cannot just drive her away like that... so even if you have quarrelled, you share the wealth," the former CS stated.
