What caused wrangles at Kaimosi Friends University?
The leadership wrangle began after then Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu defied the Public Service Commission (PSC) and appointed Mary Abukutsa Anyango as the VC.
After the interviews, the PSC recommended the appointment of Jack Nandi Manyasa as the substantive VC.
Nandi moved to the Employment and Labour Relations Court, where he got orders compelling the university council and the Ministry of Education to appoint him as the VC.
On December 19, Justice Mathews Nduma Nderi dismissed Anyango's appointment and directed the Education Ministry to appoint Nandi to the position.
However, through Martin Oloo, a senior partner at Oloo & Oloo Advocates, Nandi accused PS Inyangala of derailing the implementation of the court orders.
Why Ministry of Education has 7 days to appoint Jack Nandi as VC
According to a demand letter seen by TUKO.co.ke, Inyangala is accused of failing to okay a university council meeting, which was to take place on Friday, December 27, to formally appoint Nandi as the VC of the institution.
The meeting was necessary to implement court orders issued by the Employment and Labour Relations Court, which reinstated Nandi, as the substantive Vice Chancellor for a five-year term.
"Please note that we are aware of attempts by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Peter N. Mwita in his letters dated December 20, 2024, following the Court Orders. We also recognize efforts by the Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary (Dr Beatrice Inyangala), the 1st and 2nd Respondents, to undermine the implementation of these Orders through administrative actions," the demand letter by Martin Oloo read.
In the letter, Oloo has given Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, PS Inyangala and Bernadette Mungai, seven days to formally appoint his client to the position.
Oloo said he would proceed to court to file contempt of court orders if the three failed to implement the courts as issued by Justice Nderi.
"This communication serves as NOTICE to you as the 3rd Respondent, and to the 1st and 2nd respondents, respectively, that should you fail to appoint Prof Nandi to this position within the next SEVEN days, we are instructed to proceed to court for contempt of court orders against you specifically, as the third Respondent, and jointly with the 1st and 2nd Respondents, in Petition NO. E014 of 2024, for not complying with the court orders," the demand letter read.
