Nick Mudimba's Family, Friends Hold Candlelight Vigil at His Syokimau Home

The CGTN journalist's home in Syokimau was flooded by renowned journalists and his family who laid candles and had moments to reflect on his life.

Who showed up for Nick Mudimba's vigil

Among the journalists who showed up included Seth Olale, Johnstone Mwakazi, Enock Sickolia, Joy Doreen Bira, Mashirima Kapombe and Trevor Ombija among others.

The guests present were seen carrying candles and in a sombre mood, while others were spotted taking photos.

The late journalist's girlfriend Winnie, was the first to lay the candle down and she broke down afterwards, as her close friends held her tight.

She and Nick were soon to welcome their child as she was spotted heavily pregnant.

The candles matched the "RIP Nick" write-up that was imprinted on the floor, that saw many say Nick's light was burning so bright and he impacted everyone he met.

What happened at Nick's vigil

Freddie MC Toothbrush who moderated the vigil told TUKO.co.ke how Nick was loved and the way people showed up for him.

"It was very powerful because the turnout was great. There were so many people at his home. His girlfriend was the first one to drop the candle and she was very emotional," he said.

When will Nick be buried?

Nick collapsed and died at his Syokimau home on March 23 while with his family who confirmed the news.

He had been sick for some time and was seeking treatment but his untimely death left Kenyans in total shock.

His family announced that he will be buried on April 5 at his home in Gem even as the family plans to leave Nairobi on April 4.

Nick's friends and family have been meeting at his home in Syokimau to make arrangements for his burial.

How did celebs, pilot mourn Nick?

The sports journalist was also a trained pilot and he shared his journey online inspiring many who desire to fly planes one day.

A pilot identified as Captain Lain Njiriani paid a glowing tribute in Nick's honour, referring to him as a mentor and brother who encouraged him to reach greater heights.

Njiriani shared a video of Nick stepping out of an aircraft in full pilot's gear and shared how the journalist introduced him to the media while he introduced him to aviation.

Nick's friends in the media also penned moving tributes and noted the memories they had working with him at KTN, Switch TV and CGTN.
