The woman, Maggy (not her real name), shared a video with NGC on Instagram, explaining that she returned home after attending her mother?s burial only to find that her door had been locked with an unfamiliar padlock.

?The deadline to pay our rent is usually on the 10th of every month. I got here on the 11th after burying my mother and found a huge padlock on my door,? she said.

Why did landlord evict tenant, break the door?

In the clip, Maggy showed household items placed outside the building, noting that one of her neighbours, also a tenant in the same apartment block, had been evicted.

Maggy claimed the tenant owed the landlord two months? rent, which allegedly prompted the eviction.

The tenant?s belongings were placed outside, and the now-vacant house was reportedly vandalised following the landlord?s instructions.

?The landlord brought down the neighbour?s door and asked his people to take her things outside. He also directed them to demolish part of the wall to ensure the house was no longer fit for anyone to live in,? she explained while showing the damaged property.

The clip captured stones scattered inside the house, along with a demolished door and part of the wall.

?Is there a law against this? Where did humanity go?? she asked.

Social media users react to the tenant?s eviction

The clip quickly gained attention online, with many Kenyans sharing their opinions on how the situation was handled.

?Until you own your rentals, you won?t understand. If it reaches a point where the landlord breaks down the door and walls, just know he?s reached his limit. I highly doubt it was only two months.?

Nairobi landlady evicts tenant over rent arrears

TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Munuke Nkumira, a man from Lucky Summer, appealed to Kenyans of goodwill to help his uncle and guardian find a job.

He explained that he had been living with his uncle, but they were evicted from their home due to three months of unpaid rent.

Nkumira, who was then a student at Kenyatta University, said his uncle had lost his job and could no longer afford the rent.
