Robert Alai condemns targeting of officials? children

In a Wednesday, June 11, open letter, Alai said he was deeply saddened by what he saw on social media.

?Our children, yes, the kids of government officials, including those standing with the duly elected President William Ruto, are being dragged into a storm of hate.?

According to Alai, the son of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat was the latest victim of the online backlash, following the death of Albert Ojwang.

?His name, phone number, and even his student ID have been splashed across social media, with people calling for harm. This isn?t right, and it has to stop.?

The MCA argued that the Kenyan constitution promises privacy, fairness, and the safety of children, and tenets such as the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act and the Data Protection Act protect citizens from harassment and data misuse.

?But lately, social media has turned into a battleground where innocent kids are targeted with doxxing, threats, and shame. This chaos is tearing at the fabric of our unity, and I can?t stay silent.?

According to Alai, he sent letters to different authorities calling for action against the perpetrators.

?The police need to act now to stop this madness, ensuring that the children of officials, including those backing Ruto, aren?t punished for their parents? roles.?

He cited instances where US and British authorities used technology to track down, arrest, and charge those breaking laws.

?I?m calling for the arrest of those behind these attacks, the removal of harmful posts, and campaigns to educate us all. Our police must not watch as their own colleagues? children and Ruto?s supporters are hunted down. If we let this slide, we?re opening the door to vigilante justice, and that?s a path I refuse to let us walk.?

Alai called on Kenyans to protect children and stand against hate, but his message riled up many netizens, who reacted by saying:

Levy Naholi:

?Kileleshwa Ward should not spare this guy come 2027.?

Paul Odipo:

?So, children of government officials are more important than other people's children??

Job Ojuok:

?That is a letter by Alai to himself. When a section of society is denied justice, it's no justice for the entire society.?

Video footage from Kakoth village in Kabondo Kasipul revealed the modest family compound where Ojwang was taken into custody.

The property included two houses situated close to each other. One was a newer structure with white walls, purple details, and a blue door, while the other was older with brown walls. Several mourners were seen seated on plastic chairs outside the older home.

The compound was surrounded by trees, with a maize field located behind the houses, and an unfinished fence stood behind the newer building.
