Kim Kardashian's plea to Trump on deportations

Trump had earlier in the year issued an executive order to deport immigrants who were in the US illegally.

His orders saw officers from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency raid homes of immigrants and deport many who had built a life and family in America.

Via her Instastory post, Kim asked for a better way to solve the immigration issue and noted the impact immigrants have had in the US.

In her words:

"When we are told that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals - great. But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up. We have to do what's right. Growing up in LA, I've seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city. They are our neighbours, friends, classmates, coworkers and family. No matter where you fall politically, it is clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants. We can't turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely. There has to be a better way."

How many Kenyan immigrants were to be deported?

TUKO.co.ke reported that more than 1200 Kenyans living in America risked being deported following Trump's executive orders.

As of November 24, 2024, there were 1,445,549 noncitizens on the ICE non-detained docket with final orders of removal.

Additionally, Kenya had 1,282 undocumented citizens in the US as part of the broader group with final removal orders.

Some Kenyans took to social media to advise those living in America to return home and cautioned those reporting their fellow brothers to ICE.

Trump also came up with a KSh 129,000 offer to Kenyans and other undocumented immigrants who were willing to voluntarily deport themselves.

Those who refused were to be fined the same amount when deported, sparking mixed reactions online.
