Why does R Kelly want to be released from prison?

This comes after explosive claims by a fellow inmate alleging that a murder plot was hatched against the singer at the facility where he is currently serving his 30-year sentence.

A chilling new twist emerged this week after the inmate claimed that top prison officials tried to orchestrate Kelly?s assassination.

In court filings seen by PEOPLE, Kelly?s legal team said the 57-year-old no longer feels safe in prison and should be placed under home detention for his own protection.

Their motion centres around testimony from an inmate identified as Mikeal Glenn Stine.

Stine, who described himself as a former member of the Aryan Brotherhood, alleged that while incarcerated at the United States Penitentiary in Tucson, Arizona, he was approached by three high-ranking officials from the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) with a deadly proposition; to kill R. Kelly.

According to Stine, the officials promised him freedom if he carried out the mission.

He claimed they used the fact that he has terminal cancer as leverage to persuade him.

Stine said that after accepting the plan, he was transferred across the country to the same facility where Kelly is incarcerated and placed near him.

He further alleged that once he arrived, a prison officer reminded him of his mission, telling him to 'do what you came here for.'

However, after observing Kelly for several weeks, Stine claimed he had a change of heart.

He decided to tell the singer everything, including the details of the alleged plot and who was behind it.

He also expressed a willingness to take a lie detector test and cooperate with authorities, even offering to name inmates he had previously assaulted under orders, to prove his credibility.

In their filing, Kelly?s lawyers argued that forcing the embattled star to remain in such a dangerous environment despite credible threats to his life amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.

The court has yet to rule on the emergency motion.

Why did R Kelly face backlash?

R. Kelly recently claimed he has been actively making music, a revelation that stirred backlash online.

In a rare podcast appearance on Inmate Tea with A&P, the singer said he has written as many as 25 albums during his time behind bars.

Kelly insisted that prison life has not impacted his creativity, stating he has continued writing and even recording songs.

His comments were met with heavy criticism online, with many questioning why someone convicted of serious crimes was being offered a platform to promote his music.
