Was there any survivor in Air India crash?

The fatal crash that occurred in Ahmedabad city claimed the lives of at least 260 people, with only one person having survived the tragedy so far.

Preliminary investigations were able to determine that the people on board the plane included 217 adults and 11 children.

According to a report by the Washington Post, the survivor, identified as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, was slightly injured.

Kumar, who spoke to the press, recounted how he saw bodies and parts of the plane scattered all over after the grisly accident.

The survivor is reportedly a Briton of Indian descent. The high death toll makes this Air India crash one of the deadliest in aviation history.

The Guardian reported that Amit Shah, India's home minister, stated that the heat generated by burning fuel indicated that there were little chances of people surviving the crash.

"There were approximately 125,000 litres of fuel inside the aircraft. The liquid got into contact with heat, making it impossible for anyone to survive," Shah said.

He further stated that the final death toll would be established after the DNA testing has been completed on the remains of the victims.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the fatal crash. At the crash site, the search team was able to find one of two black boxes, usually located in the cockpit.

However, it is yet to be established whether the box is the cockpit data recorder or voice recorder, which stores real-time information of the plane.

Images circulating online show onlookers crowded at the scene, with part of the plane wreckage sticking out of a building.

Among the visible parts were the aircraft's landing gear, tail and fuselage. The area residents stated that the crash sounded like a bomb blast followed by an earthquake.
