The flight, bound for London Gatwick, crashed moments after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.

The accident claimed the lives of 241 passengers and crew members, who spent a few seconds in the air before disaster struck.

Indian woman's lucky escape

Chauhan was visiting India for vacation after two years and was returning to London, where she lives with her husband.

Due to heavy traffic, she got delayed and arrived at the airport late, preventing her from boarding the plane.

According to NDTV, the woman is reported to have pleaded with the staff to allow her to board, but her request was turned down.

Just moments after leaving the airport, she got news of the plane crash as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner lost altitude and plummeted into a residential complex.

Speaking to local media during an interview, Chauhan said she was devastated and her whole body was shivering.

She thanked God for saving her, saying she left the airport just minutes before the crash.

The woman said it was the first time she was returning to India after moving to London two years prior, adding she does not fly more often.

Chauhan's mother said it was all down to divine intervention, noting that Ganpati Bappa saved her daughter.
