A young woman, Pendo, has made headlines after refusing a car gifted by her estranged mother during her university graduation.

The emotional moment unfolded at the University of Dar es Salaam, where Pendo was celebrating a major milestone in her life after years of estrangement from her mother.

According to a YouTube video by Kiredio, the mother explained that the two had not seen each other in over 15 years.

Their story began in Dodoma, where Pendo?s mother became pregnant with her after a short-lived relationship.

The father left soon after, and Pendo?s mother moved to Singida, where she started a new relationship.

However, her new partner did not want the responsibility of raising another man?s child.

Faced with this difficult situation, Pendo?s mother made a heartbreaking decision.

She left Pendo, then only eight years old, with her mother (Pendo?s grandmother), knowing she didn?t have the financial means to care for the child.

"My heart was really in pain after I left Pendo with my mother because I knew she, too, didn't have money to spend," Pendo?s mother tearfully recalled.

She left without looking back, building a new life and leaving her daughter behind.

Fifteen years later, Pendo?s mother reappeared at her graduation with an expensive gesture?a brand-new Mazda CX-5.

The graduation gift was the estranged mother's heartfelt effort to reconnect with her daughter.

It was accompanied by a handwritten card explaining her past decisions, her regrets, and a desire to make amends.

But Pendo, who had grown up without her mother's support, stood firm.

"I don't need it," she stated resolutely before walking away from the parked vehicle.

Pendo?s response highlighted the fact that material gifts cannot make up for years of lost connection and the pain of being left behind as a child.
