Wild Chris Boswell stat is an indictment on Pittsburgh Steelers offense

Their Week 6 32-point effort against the Las Vegas Raiders not withstanding, the Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled to score points in 2024, as the offense routinely stalls out on drives, leaving kicker Chris Boswell to salvage many of them.

Entering Week 6, the Steelers were averaging just 18.4 points per game. You can even pick apart the 32-point effort against the Raiders, as lowly Las Vegas routinely gift-wrapped Pittsburgh points with mistakes.

Thankfully, Boswell has been on his "A" game this season, making 16-of-17 field goals and all 11 of his extra points. But he is also nearly outscoring the entire rest of the team combined.

Boswell has scored a total of 58 points by himself through six games with his 16 field goals and 10 extra points. Meanwhile, the offense as a whole has generated 66 points with 11 total touchdowns, which comes out to an average of less than two per game.

Current Standings:

Boswell: 58

Rest Of Team: 66

In Week 6, Boswell nearly outscored the rest of the team by himself. The veteran kicker knocked through four field goals and two extra points, good enough for 14 total.

The Steelers' offense found pay dirt three times for another 18 points. Boswell was outscoring Pittsburgh's offense until Najee Harris' 36-yard touchdown run with 4:21 left in the third quarter.

The Boswell stat is another stark reminder of why the Steelers might have no choice but to give Russell Wilson a look at some point. Justin Fields isn't the Steelers' biggest issue on offense, but he certainly hasn't played to a level that cements him as the a locked-in starter for the rest of the season.

Pittsburgh is going to beat the less talented teams with the current formula Fields gives them, but the Steelers are going to need more if they want a chance to compete with better teams.
