According to Citizen Digital, the incident occurred at God Jope Trading Center, Lambwe West, Homa Bay County.

How did Homa Bay fire start?

The boy, who suffered burns to his left hand while trying to disconnect power from a battery, was rushed to Ogongo Health Center for treatment.

Acting Chief of Lambwe West Location, Fredrick Onyango Odero explained that the fire started after the battery, which was being charged by a solar panel, exploded.

Chief Odero confirmed that the boy was rescued by neighbors following the explosion.

Unfortunately, their home and eight other corrugated iron-sheet (Mabati) structures were destroyed in the blaze.

?All household items in the affected rental houses were reduced to ashes,? said Onyango.

The fire left at least ten families displaced, with many forced to spend the night in the cold after losing all their belongings.

Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage as the affected families recover from the tragic incident.

Hillside Endarasha school closed after fatal fire

In Nyeri, the High Court ordered the immediate closure of boarding facilities at Hillside Endarasha Academy due to serious concerns about the safety and health of the pupils.

The ruling follows a petition by the Kenya Human Rights Commission and other groups, prompted by a tragic fire in September that claimed 21 lives.

Justice Magare Dennis Kizito Ngwono pointed out the urgent need to protect the children's best interests, issuing a conservatory order against reopening the boarding facilities.

He mandated that the school submit health and safety reports and structural integrity assessments of the dormitories by Wednesday, October 16.
