The 18-year-old, who was previously diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis, also suffers from tuberculosis, which has gone untreated for an extended period.

The tuberculosis has weakened her lungs requiring her to be on oxygen support.

KTN News reported that Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital (ITRH) allowed the family to carry two oxygen cylinders and an electric oxygen generator home to keep her alive.

The parents are now seeking help from well-wishers to raise finances for her medical care and expenses.

Hospital sends girl on oxygen home after Isiolo medics strike

Clearly struggling to speak, the patient explained how she got to the hospital and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

?I was admitted to the ICU for one and a half months. They did some tests and found that I have a hole in my heart, and I could not breathe well, so I was put on oxygen support,? she stated.

She further noted that she fears for what will come next because she needs electricity to breathe and power may go off while at home.

The distraught young woman also shared the burden of her medical expenses, noting that she needs an injection worth KSh100,000.

?I need some injection costing KSh100k, and where we live, power may go off, and at that point, I don?t know what we will do because I need it for my oxygen generator,? she added.

Family sends plea to government

The young woman?s mother called on the county government of Isiolo to pay the medics to save the lives of its sick residents.

?The governor should pay these doctors because, without doctors, citizens will die. He may travel abroad for treatment, but some of us cannot afford it," she stated.

Further, the hospital administration noted that they have referred some of their patients to other hospitals in Meru and Embu counties.

The ITRH called on the county leaders to find solutions and resolve the medical doctor?s situation as soon as possible.
