Gen Z activist Billy Mwangi, who made headlines last year after his abduction during anti-government protests, has officially declared his bid for the Embu Senate seat. The surprise announcement came during a dramatic appearance at a church service on Sunday.

Addressing a packed congregation that included several high-profile political figures, Mwangi electrified the room with his bold declaration.

?Say hi to your neighbor, tell them they have been greeted by the One Term Movement,? he said, sparking cheers and applause from the audience.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Mwangi, visibly emotional, recounted the harrowing experience of his abduction, during which he was held in captivity for over two weeks. ?Life there was bad?we were beaten, denied food, and forced to sleep naked for 17 days,? he revealed. ?As Gen Z, we need the next government to listen to young people.?

Despite the trauma, Mwangi spoke with resilience and announced his intention to vie for the Embu Senate seat in the next election.

?I believe with Riggy G (Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua) as the driver of the opposition, we can get to that position,? he said. ?Even if I only get two votes, I will stand. I humbly ask Riggy G to support me. I may be a small boy, but I'm standing for the Gen Zs of Embu.?

He also shed light on the continued struggles faced by his fellow protestors. ?Two of my friends, Kavuli and Muteti, lost their jobs because of the protests. Even I?m jobless due to the abductions. They told us to leave; they didn?t want us.?

Mwangi concluded with a heartfelt plea to leaders advocating for good governance. ?Please, give us jobs. I can work for the legal Deputy President. And to my MP, Mukunji, thank you, because you fought for me back in Embu.?
