During a meeting with the Kenya Editors Guild on Monday, October 14, NCIC chairperson Simon Kobia expressed concerns that the ongoing process could lead to divisions.

Kobia singled out divisions between communities, particularly those in the Mt Kenya region and other parts of the country.

"As NCIC, our major concern is that the way this process (DP Rigathi Gachagua?s impeachment) is shaping up could easily lead to conflicts between the people of the Mt Kenya area and people from other parts of the country, this is what we are worried about," Kobia said.

He urged the Senate to ensure the trial is conducted fairly to maintain national peace and cohesion.

"We feel that the Senate in handling this matter should do it in a way that all Kenyans will feel that it has been fair and it has been done according to the law," he stated.

What is Kobia's advice to senators

The NCIC chairperson underscored the significance of the trial, noting that the public is closely watching how the case unfolds.

He urged caution in evaluating the allegations against Gachagua, stating that the Senate should carefully assess all the evidence before making a decision on the matter.

"We will have to see and listen to all that the Deputy President has said so that we can discern whether he did what is being said or what is being accused of is correct because this is something that the country is waiting for us to hear what we say," Kobia explained.
