Carolyne passed away on April 8, 2025, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Saudi Arabia.

When did Carolyne go to Saudi Arabia?

Her sister, Jemima Mutindi Muthaka, told TUKO.co.ke that Carolyne left Kenya in 2019 and had not returned home since.

She shared that the family was finally expecting her back in August this year, but sadly, it was not meant to be.

?She went to Saudi Arabia for domestic work and lived with her first employer for roughly three months before moving to another employer?s house. However, she left all her documents at her first employer?s house, rendering her unable to travel back home,? Jemima explained.

How did Carolyne Wambui die?

Jemima said her sister had called them, saying she was experiencing chest pains and had been rushed to the hospital.

?She used an ID belonging to a Ugandan woman to be admitted to hospital. They told her she had pneumonia and breathing difficulties. She even sent me videos of herself in hospital,? said Jemima.

The distraught sister added that at some point, Carolyne said she was extremely weak and needed to rest, promising to call back later, but she never did.

?She stopped responding to messages and didn?t answer our calls. That?s when I contacted one of her friends in Saudi Arabia, who later informed us that Carolyne had died.?

?The lady had been busy and only went to the hospital after four days, where she discovered that Carolyne had passed away the same day she last spoke to me,? she shared.

Kiambu family appeals for KSh 1.5m

The heartbroken family was informed they have 28 days from the date of death to repatriate Carolyne?s body?otherwise, it would be disposed of by authorities.

Jemima explained that she had contacted her sister?s agent and the labour office but had not received any assistance.

?We only have a few days left to bring her home and give her a befitting burial. The agents said their hands were tied because Carolyne had run away from her first employer and cut off all links with them.?

The family is now left to raise funds to cover Carolyne?s hospital bill, repatriation costs, and funeral expenses.

?The hospital bill stands at KSh 374,000, and we also need around KSh 400,000 to bring her back to Kenya. Altogether, we require roughly KSh 1.5 million, an amount we simply cannot afford as a family.?

Jemima also revealed that their father passed away in 2024, and they are now left with their mother, who is devastated.

?Her blood pressure has gone up, and she doesn?t even want to talk about the loss,? Jemima said.
