Pauline Blessings could be in the university pursuing higher education, but due to financial challenges, she has been forced to remain home.

However, she has not resorted to lazing around at home but ventures into making women's hair to earn and hopefully gather enough to pay for her university fees.

What time does Blessings wake up?

Blessings sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2023 and earned C plus, enough to take her to the university.

"I decided to become a hairdresser after finishing my high school education. I did not want to sit at home because by staying at home, I would not get a chance of getting money, so I had to look for it," she said.

Blessings kicked off her mini career journey as a hairdresser due to the difficult situation back at home.

She wakes up early in the morning and walks for long distances, knocking on one door after another in search of an opportunity to use her hands to make money.

Which university was Blessings called to study?

"I was called to the University of Eldoret. However, my parents did not have money for the fees. I decided to start this work to help me look for money to join the university. However, it is difficult, and my hopes for continuing my education are getting slimmer because the money is limited. Sometimes I use it for my personal needs or to help the family. Many have laughed at me, but I have not yet lost hope and given up. Other times it pains me a lot," she said.

One of the challenges Blessings encounters in her hustle is being chased away from people's homes.

Some do not have money for her services and hence send her away despite negotiating with them at an affordable fee.

"They say they do not have money or do not need a hairdo, and this makes me heartbroken, but I have to continue. I cannot give up," she said.

How much is Blessings's first-year University of Eldoret fees?

Blessings' mother said she has tried to get help for her hardworking daughter but her efforts have been unfruitful.

She appealed to well-wishers to help her daughter join university and continue with her education journey.

According to the university letter, Blessings was poised to pursue a degree of Bachelor of Science (Agrofrorestry and Rural Development).

Her first year fees amounted to KSh 275,000 which was exclusive of accommodation fees, but lack of funds was a major challenge.
