Chelsea to face Michael Olunga's former team

The Blues went through to the last four after an unconvincing 4-2 aggregate win over Polish club Legia Warsaw. Enzo Maresca's side lost 2-1 at home in the second leg.

Chelsea won the first leg 3-0, but fans are worried about their performances. They are battling for a Champions League spot in the Premier League and are regressing rapidly.

"It's a setback tonight for us, no doubt, first of all because we lost the game. But I said yesterday, I think probably the other clubs, as you said, in this moment they can feel more confidence around them," Maresca said per Football London.

They will now face Swedish club Djurg?rden, Olunga's first-ever team in Europe after leaving Gor Mahia. Djurg?rden are in their first European semi-final after beating SK Rapid 4-1 on aggregate.

Fiorentina will face Real Betis in the other semi-final tie.

The Swedish club finished fifth in the Conference League league phase and now have a chance of taking down a European giant.

Michael Olunga's spell with Djurg?rden

Olunga signed for the Swedish club in 2016 from Gor Mahia. He had asked the former Arsenal manager to sign him for Arsenal.

"He's very ambitious and purposeful, he trains hard and always wants to learn and take the next step," Djurg?rden sporting director Bosse Andersson said via Daily Express.

In January 2017, he left the club to join Chinese club Guizhou Zhicheng despite signing a four-year contract with the club. He scored 12 goals in 28 matches for the Swedish outfit.

Djurg?rden have won one and lost two of their three league matches this season. They finished fourth in the 2024 season and last won the Swedish league in 2019.

The Harambee Stars captain went on to have a successful career. He played in Japan, Spain, and now Qatar.

Olunga recently turned 31 and is hoping to captain the Kenya national team at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host alongside neighbours Uganda and Tanzania.

Benni McCarthy responds to Olunga's critics

Earlier TUKO.co.ke reported that Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy lauded Michael Olunga amid criticism.

The South African said the Al Duhail star is one of the best finishers and doesn't understand the hate he gets.

The former Girnona striker scored against the Gambia and Gabon, Benni McCarhty's first matches as Kenyan coach.
