After his government employment ended, the ex-civil servant turned to supplying firewood to earn a living and pay his bills.

Amaswache noted life was not easy after his office tenure ended, as he struggled to make ends meet.

Amaswache asks Ruto for a job

With a family that looks up to him, Amaswache noted that it is a massive burden on him to provide.

"I need a job. I'm asking His Excellency William Ruto to consider those who were in government at one given time. We are all Kenyans and the president should take care of all of us," he heartbreakingly told Citizen Digital.

Amaswache, who worked under Moses Akaranga, the former governor of Vihiga, noted that he needs at least KSh 200,000 capital.

Back at home, the only memories he has of the government officials he worked with are archived in portraits.

Amaswache's word of advice to politicians

The heartbroken man warned the current leaders and people in power against disrespecting others after his life took a drastic turn.

"Protect and respect those who previously served in the office. Today you could be in the office, tomorrow you could be not," he agonisingly noted.

He noted that when one is in power, everything looks fine, and one gets respect from people because of their position at the time.

"When you are out of power, that is when you discover the true reflection of things. People will not pick up your calls because they do not need you," he added.

Kenyans react to Amaswache's career shift

Amaswache's experience sparked mixed reactions among social media users, as many pointed out several issues.

Lipesa Victor

"It pains me to see him in that position. He is a great man. When he was a deputy governor, he helped my family a lot when we lost dad to cancer in 2014. He assembled a great team of leaders that helped us through Harambee to settle KSh 3.9 million bill at Aga Khan Hospital. I owe this man a lot and for now, I can only pray. If God ever enables me, I will repay the kindness you showed my family."

Raduku Oketch:

"To be these titles referred to here as "deputy" with no clear roles but working at the behest of your seniors is very tricky. It's very unfortunate for those who currently hold those sides though one good thing is that they'll never be taken to courts on corruption-related issues."

Walter James

"But how now? Or shall we then, assume that he is one guy who lived within his means? But even if that was the case, how possible is it that he doesn't have any investment? He seems to understand now that power is transient, was that known to him when he was in power? I am not blaming neither am I judging him, only curiosity is taking me around circles like a cat."

John Oletito:

"Financial literacy is an everyday learning experience. The story underpins the need to have some financial skills in managing the little we get. Having a million salary without re-investing may lead to embarrassment. When a man is to the south, learn not to laugh at him."

Wekesa Brown

"And this is the reason some of our relatives are stingy. Maybe this guy was too generous and educated kids, paid hospitals sasa sahi he is a topic of ridicule. You guys need to understand that not everyone places the value of money over humanity. I would help people even if it means I die a poor man.. never judge such a man. You don't know his story. Just be happy, and help others lessen their sorrows, that's the ultimate purpose in life."
