Governor Fernandes Barasa Urges Kakamega Youth Not to Waste Time But Procreate

Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa discouraged the youth in the county from using family planning methods that might suppress population growth

The aim, according to him, is to have as many children born to enhance the county's vote count and numerical strength for political purposes

Barasa has incentivised the mission; every pregnant woman in the county would be entitled to a stipend at every checkup visit they make to the hospitals within the county

Speaking on Thursday, April 17, in Malava subcounty, where he flagged off medical supplies, Barasa observed that there was a low turnout of pregnant women looking for clinic services in health facilities across the county.

"Young men and women in this county don't want to have children. I went to Malava Level (IV) hospital and found empty beds. I only saw a few pregnant women there, they were about three," Barasa said.

Barasa, however, added that his administration had strengthened the Barasa Care kitty for pregnant women.

How much will pregnant women in Kakamega earn?

Anyone attending the clinics will be paid at least KSh 2,000 upon registering for the programme.

"Any pregnant woman who will go to any county health facilities will be paid KSh 2000 after registration, she will continue receiving the money up to delivery day, so my young people. I want you to marry so that your wife receives KSh 2,000 during her pregnancy period and after delivery," he added.

They will also be entitled to KSh 12,000 for nutritional support from pregnancy to the postnatal period.

In his speech, the governor warned the men who neglect their pregnant wives to partake in drunkenness.

He counselled them that it is their responsibility to take care of their expectant partners through the pregnancy and post-delivery.

"I warn those men who leave their wives and go for alcohol, this act has brought dissatisfaction to the couples. As your leader, I must tell you the importance of being your wife all the time," he said.

Barasa also discouraged women from using family planning methods that could lower the birth rate and consequently lead to a decline in the vote count.

"Beautiful women of Malava, please don't use family planning, I want to see every lady is pregnant because my administration will cater for your clinic bills, stop embarrassing men," he said.

What Governor Barasa told Kakamega residents over SHA

In other news, the county boss urged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) so as to benefit from the government's harmonised healthcare system.

He said SHA was devised by the government to benefit the ordinary citizenry, who previously did not have access to quality healthcare due to a lack of money.

Barasa also recognised the Community Health Promoters (CHP), whom he lauded for undertaking noble work at the grassroots; he promised them better remuneration in the future.
