Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the distraught mum said that Nekesa made a mistake at home, and she quarrelled with her the way parents do when a child does something wrong.

Shortly afterwards, they made up, and all seemed well by the time they were going to bed.

Why did Nyambura leave Nekesa all alone?

"I left for work the following morning and she was in charge of the house taking care of the baby. Neigbours said that they saw her at noon and after hanging out with the other kids she bid them goodbye," said Nyambura.

"To some, Nekesa said that she was going to sleep while she told others that she was going to take a bath," the distraught mum added.

Nekesa's mum said that in the evening, she found the baby she had left under her daughter's care miserable and wet all over; he had not been attended to the whole day. The young mother swung into action, looking for her elder child in the neighbourhood.

Nekesa is an 11-year-old girl who goes to school at Ngwata Primary and stays in Mlolongo Phase Three.
